Long Island has thousands of options to choose from when it comes to dining out. With so many different options to choose from, it is often hard to figure out where to go.
When I told my friends and family that I would be heading to the Westbury Manor for dinner, many asked, why? Why are you getting food from a catering hall? Then you usually get the comment that they had gone to a party once before and had a good time. Well, the Manor actually has a wonderful restaurant as well, The Polo Lounge. It really is a hidden gem on Long Island. From the ambiance, the staff, and of course the food; The Westbury Manor really makes your dinner worthwhile.
Located in Westbury, right off of Jericho turnpike, you drive up a driveway to the manor. At this time of the year, the property is beautifully decorated for the holidays. You just feel so welcome.
You enter through the main entrance, and immediately on your left is the Polo Lounge. The Lounge also has a full-service bar as well as live music on some nights!
The restaurant tends to fill up, so I highly recommend reservations. My party was sat down at a booth in one of the corners of the restaurant. The restaurant has a way of making you feel right at home.
Maybe it’s the fact that you are surrounded by fresh flowers and holiday decorations that are not in your face, but just the right amount of festive fun.
Okay, okay, the food! So, we know the atmosphere is awesome, what about the food? The food is excellent! Let’s dive into that, shall we?
I almost never start a review of a restaurant talking about the bread… but the bread is pretty damn good. Quite frankly, if a restaurant has mediocre bread; my expectations of the entire meal is low. Even the butter had a nice touch to it.
Next up for our appetizers, we got tomatoes and mozzarella, octopus salad, and crab cake. I normally don’t eat octopus; I am glad I had it that night! Also, The crab cake was absolutely delicious!
For dinner, I had my personal all-time favorite chicken dish, the chicken limoncello.
From the hints of lemon, the limoncello liqueur, and the slight crust on the chicken, it truly is a perfect dish. I’m pretty sure I devoured this dish in about 7 minutes. The chicken melts in your mouth and just makes you feel so good, a perfect winter dish. Then, of course, you can dip your bread in the limoncello sauce.
No meal is complete without some dessert. Yeah, I did attend this restaurant on my birthday. We had a rich chocolate cake with delicious fresh fruit. I honestly am not sure how they got such fresh strawberries, they tasted like they were just picked. It was a perfect way to end the night.
All in all, the Westbury Manor exceeds at all points. The food is made in-house, so you know you are definitely getting fresh food. Our waiter, Oliver was super friendly and made the night perfect. The atmosphere is also just so welcoming which can easily make or break your experience. If you are looking for a perfect place for date night, family dinner, what have you, look no further. They know what they are doing and you will be sure to have a wonderful evening.
